Wednesday Nov 1, 2023 at 7:00pm at the church.

Please choose to attend One of the two offered meetings - Oct 29 or Nov 1.   Registration for these sacraments will take place immediately following the information meeting.

PLEASE NOTE

Registration for 2023/2024 First Reconciliation/First Communion will close after the second offered Parent information/registration meeting (Wed Nov 1) as we need to acknowledge our numbers and move forward with the sacramental preparation of those who have registered.  Those who inquire about registration after this date will have to wait until the following year to celebrate these sacraments.

Only those children who are already baptized in the Roman Catholic Church are eligible for sacraments in the Roman Catholic Church.

The class for registered children for First Reconciliation will be held on Saturday Nov 18 from 9:00am - 10:30am

and the celebration for the Sacrament of First Confession will be held on Wednesday, Nov 29 at 7:00pm

Please bring the following with you to the information meeting;

  • Your completed Registration Form (found on the link below where you can print it out and fill it in)
  • A Photocopy (not the original) of your child's Roman Catholic Baptismal Certificate (even if your child was baptised here at St. Mary's Parish in Collingwood)
  • A $50.00 registration donation (which helps allay costs to the parish)
  • The meeting will take half hour.

At the meeting you will receive full information about the sacramental process for both the sacraments of First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Holy Communion.  I will answer any general or personal questions parents may have and Registration will take place in the parish hall immediatley after the meeting in the church.

IMPORTANT: Any and all information pertaining to the sacraments will come from St. Mary's Parish and not through the schools.  Please direct all questions to the parish secretary by calling 705 445 1790 Ext 2 or leave a message in her voice mailbox.

Welcome - The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist

Eucharist (Communion) is one of the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church. This sacrament of initiation is unique in that unlike Baptism and Confirmation, which are only received once, the Eucharist can be received each time we go to Mass.

Eucharist - What is the Holy Eucharist

The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic Life. In the Holy Eucharist, under the appearances of bread and wine, the Lord Christ is contained, offered, and received. The word "Eucharist" means "Thanksgiving." When the priest gathers us together to celebrate the Eucharist, he will be bring Jesus to us when we receive Communion.

This sacrament is the source of great graces that sanctify us and help us grow in the likeness of Jesus Christ. Catholics believe the Eucharist is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.

Eucharist - What is First Communion

In celebrating First Communion, we are celebrating the first time a child is receiving our Lord in the Eucharist. For children who are preparing to receive their First Holy Communion, this is a big deal. And for all of us, no matter how many times we have received Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist, it should always be a big deal.

While a child’s first Communion is indeed a cause for celebration and should be beautiful and memorable, the true focus of that holy and special day must remain the sacrament itself as the little ones are welcomed to the table of the Lord.
